Sporting CP head coach Silas couldn’t make sure if Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes played his last match for the Portuguese club on Monday.

Linked to United this month and through the previous transfer window, Fernandes remains in Lisbon despite the continuing speculation and captained Sporting in their 1-0 win over Maritimo.

The midfielder has been joined with a move to old Trafford for many months with talks heating up concerning a January move.

With United and Sporting still reportedly attempting to barter a deal before the window shuts, Silas was all over again asked regarding the longer term of star skipper Fernandes.

The manager, though, was unable to grant a definitive answer because the adventure story looks set to continue on through the final days of the January transfer window.

“I cannot confirm it [if Fernandes made his last appearance against Maritimo], i’d like him to remain,” Silas told reporters post-match.

“Right currently i do not know if he will stay or not, however i’d wish to count on him at least till the end of the season.

“Bruno Fernandes may be a totally different player, he sees things that nobody sees. Being more back and seeing these movements, the defence begins to decline.

“Any team that had Bruno Fernandes in
Portugal would suffer if they lost him. If thus we are going to need to search for solutions.”

Fernandes, linked to Tottenham and Real Madrid previously, has scored fifteen goals in all competitions for Sporting this season.

The 25-year-old midfielder netted thirty one goals last term, together with twenty in Primeira Liga.

Prior to his breakthrough with Sporting CP, the Portuguese star featured in Serie A for the likes of Udinese and Sampdoria , spending 3 seasons with the former.

He scored eleven goals in 95 total appearances for Udinese whereas adding five goals throughout his loan season with Sampdoria.
