Manchester United Coach Erik ten Hag has now provided a new update about the club’s January transfer plans, MySportDab reports.
The Dutch coach confirmed that the Red Devils will do ‘everything possible’ to sign a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in January.
MySportDab understands that PSV Eindhoven’s £50million-rated Cody Gakpo is a transfer target, and also Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos.
United have a free spot in the squad after terminating Ronaldo’s contract and taking out his £500,000-a-week wages.
However, Ten Hag made it clear that United will only sign a striker if the player they want is available.
According to reports, United won’t try to break the back in January for a new player.
Speaking about replacing Ronaldo in January, Ten Hag said: ‘Yes we are working on it but only if we find the right player.
‘We will do everything possible. We have started research on the opportunity and we will take the next step if that opportunity is there to contract them.’
Manchester United held talks with PSV in the summer about signing Gakpo and they could reopen negotiations next month.
The 6ft 4in PSV man scored three goals for the Netherlands as they reached quarter-finals in Qatar.
Ten Hag continued: ‘I won’t make comments about specific players. It won’t ever happen.
‘I respect that players have contracts, but yes we are working already to get the right players in.’
Portugal’s Goncalo Ramos is another player on Ten Hag’s wishlist.
The 21-year-old scored a hat-trick in the last 16 for Portugal in their 6-1 win against Switzerland after replacing Ronaldo.
