Groningen Vs Ajax Eredivisie match was forced to be abandoned following gory scenes of terrific explosions, MySportDab reports.
It was scary at the Euroborg Stadium in Netherlands on Sunday, as Groningen Vs Ajax match was interrupted following series of smoke explosions that distracted the game.
It was five minutes into the match before the incident which halted play due to the distraction from explosions.
Reports from the Dutch media claim Groningen ultras who are fed up with the poor handling of the club by the club’s executives were behind the violent explosions that caused the game to be halted before being abandoned.
Before the game against Ajax, Groningen were confirmed relegated from Eredivisie to Erste Divisie following their 1-1 draw with Go Ahead Eagles in their previous game.
Hence, fans were bent on interrupting the match against Ajax to protest the handling of the club.
Five minutes into the game, they started throwing smoke explosives into the pitch.
Smokes could be seen wreathing into the sky forcing the game to be halted.
After the first incident, the match was resumed but the fans got angrier and started inundating the pitch with more smoke explosions.
As if that was not enough, they started invading the pitch in large numbers before the game was finally abandoned 10 minutes after.
MySportDab understands non of the players or match officials was hurt in the incident as they were all evacuated in time following the incident.
Dutch authorities have swung into action to fish out the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed the match has been rescheduled for tomorrow 14:00GMT (2pm Nigerian time).
