Frenkie de Jong has now spoken yet again about reports of him leaving Barcelona for Manchester United, MySportDab reports.

The Dutch midfielder has denied such claims of him leaving the Spanish giants this summer.

He has made it clear now that his immediate future ‘remains with Barcelona’.

The 26-year-old was a key transfer target for Erik ten Hag during this first season, and United even submitted a £70m bid for him last year.

Despite sending staffs to Spain, United were unable to complete the deal, with De Jong refusing to leave again.

But United have still not lost interest in the Barca midfielder once again.

In a massive blow for Manchester United, De Jong has made another U-turn and his final decision is to stay at Barcelona.

Asked if he would stay at Barcelona beyond this summer, he said: ‘Everything was clear to me, also last summer when things were bad for a while.

‘That’s why I did not get distracted last summer.

‘Also, I signed a contract extension recently as I felt in control and able to decide for myself.

‘That’s why I didn’t bother about leaving. I feel perfect at Barcelona and I will still be playing here next season.’

De Jong played a key role in Barcelona’s title-winning season, scoring twice in 33 La Liga games.

Having joined from Ajax in 2019, De Jong’s contract will expire in 2026, and the midfielder will now fill the role of Sergio Busquets.

‘It will be different without Busquets for us next season,’ he said of the departing club legend.

‘He played here for 15 years, you will notice that when such a player is no longer around.

‘I enjoyed playing with him, when we were next to each other. We played really well together and I learned a lot from him.’

But there are still questions over his future at the club because Barcelona could ask the midfielder to take a pay cut again due to the club’s financial issues.

Meanwhile, Man United are close to announcing their new owners, with Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani set to be confirmed.
