Former Chelsea star and Barcelona left back Marcos Alonso has turned down Manchester United’s contract offer, MySportDab reports.

Manchester United are shuffling for a new left back on a loan deal to replace injured Luke Shaw.

A list of players have been shortlisted according to reports to temporarily stand in for the club as they await the return of Tyrell Malacia and Shaw from the sideline.

According to Marca, Manchester United have contacted Barcelona for Marcos Alonso offering the player a two-year contract.

The offer would have seen Alonso return to the Premier League and still continue for one more year when his contract at Barcelona would have ran out.

Alonso is into the last year of his Barcelona contract but has chosen to turn down the offer by Manchester United, according to Marca.

The Spaniard had a legendary Premier League career before leaving for Barcelona where he may likely call time on his career.

He played for Bolton and Sunderland before joining Chelsea where his career peaked.

He won several trophies with the Blues from the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

His decision to turn down Manchester United’s offer comes at the backdrop of his dwindling fortunes at Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez.

Alejandro Balde has emerged as Xavi’s choice left back for Barcelona with Marcos Alonso dropping down the pecking order.

However, reports have it that Alonso is willing to fight for his place in the squad following the exit of Jordi Alba until he sees out the remaining months of his contract with the club.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are still on the hunt for a left back on a loan before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea’s out-of-favor defender Marc Cucurella is still top of the list of options, including Argentina and Sevilla’s Nicolas Tagliafico and Brentford’s Rico Henry.
