World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has issued a four-year ban to Russia from all sporting activities after doping allegations, MySportDab reports.
The four-year ban means Russia won’t participate at the 2022 World Cup and Olympic games over the next years.
MySportDab understands Russia have just 21 days to appeal the huge ban following ongoing doping allegations against the country.
However, The International Olympic committee has promised to allow clean athletes take part in sporting activities but under a different flag and not as a Russia.
This is a huge blow for the Russian football team which hosted the 2018 World Cup and even reached the quarter-final after defeating Spain.
Russia had been faced with severe state backed doping allegations for years now and this ban appears to be the way forward against doping in sports.
17 of WADA’s influential athletes’ committee urged tougher sanctions and believe this step was the only meaningful sanction.
A statement from WADA read:
‘We keep up that the misrepresentation, control and misleading revealed to date might be supported and propagated with a lesser reaction.
‘Until these basic maltreatment of uprightness in sport are defied with fortitude and an unflinching duty to secure competitors and clean game, they will proceed, and the games we love remain discolored.’
An aggregate of 168 or more Russian athletes contended under a nonpartisan flag at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang after the nation was restricted after the 2014 Games, which it facilitated in Sochi.
Russia has been prohibited from competing as a country in sports games since 2015.
