As the Super Eagles of Nigeria gear up for the arduous journey of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification, they face a growing predicament with several key players sidelined due to injuries, MySportDab reports.

Leicester City’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has confirmed that the talented Super Eagles holding midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, will be absent from action until after the international break. Ndidi, who has already missed two games due to a troublesome muscle injury, is set to join a list of injured Super Eagles stars.

Maresca revealed this development during a pre-match interview in anticipation of Leicester City’s English Championship clash against Leeds United FC.

He stated, “Wilf will be out until the international break. It is also a muscular problem. It’s a small thing, but when the problem is muscular, even if it’s small, it’s always one or two weeks because we don’t want to take any risks.”

Ndidi’s absence adds to the growing concerns for Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Jose Peseiro, who is yet to announce his squad for the crucial qualification games.

In addition to Ndidi, the injury list already includes Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, Boavista defender, Bruno Onyeamachi, and West Bromwich Albion center-back, Semi Ajayi. These injuries have left Super Eagles supporters anxious about the team’s prospects in the upcoming qualifiers.

The first World Cup qualification game will see Nigeria hosting Lesotho’s Crocodiles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on November 16. Subsequently, the two-time African champions will embark on a journey to Zimbabwe for a matchday two fixture at the Huye Stadium in Rwanda three days later.

As the Super Eagles prepare to face these critical challenges, the absence of these key players casts a shadow of uncertainty over their quest to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underlining the importance of squad depth and resilience in the world of international football.
