Getafe have decided to appeal a controversial red card issued to Mason Greenwood during midweek La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano, MySportDab reports.

Mason Greenwood made the cut of three Getafe players who were sent off by the center-referee Figueroa Vasquez during the heated match.

Juanma Latasa was the first Getafe player to see red. Latasa was sent off after two yellow cards. Darmian Suarez also saw red.

Greenwood was the second player to be sent off by Figueroa Vasquez and it was the first time a team has been reduced to 8 players in La Liga this season.

Greenwood, who has easily built back his career with the Basque club, was a casualty of Figueroa Vasquez’s gratuitous penalty for erring players.

Vasquez issued out 10 cards in the game with Getafe bagging all three red cards, and Greenwood unfortunately picked the first red card of his career.

Greenwood’s red card was controversial. Vasquez explained Greenwood’s red card saying he protested his decision not to award Getafe a free-kick after he was alleged a foul and used a swear word on him.

Reacting to Vasquez’s allegations, Greenwood said he did not use a swear word on the official. However, MySportDab learnt investigations into the incident is ongoing and Greenwood could be banned from four La Liga matches.

Meanwhile, marca reports Getafe have made a move to appeal Greenwood’s red card and possibly avert the imminent ban.

The club believes the Man United loanee, who has been in top shape for the club, was wrongly sent off by Vasquez.

If Getafe’s appeal is successful, it will be a double win for Getafe as they will likely stop the youngster from being suspended from matches.
