English Premier League teams have voted against the use of five substitutes next season, MySportDab reports.

A total of 11 clubs voted against the proposal at a shareholding meeting today.

This means that the usual three substitutes will be used again next season.

The clubs that voted against the decision are not among the elite clubs in the league.

Lower table clubs were concerned that being able to substitute five players would give the wealthier clubs an advantage.

The three Promoted clubs from the Championship, Leeds, Fulham and West Brom are among those that voted against five subs.

They want the usual three substitutions back and bench of seven players.

Meanwhile, Chelsea voted for the five substitutions proposal.

The London club tried to convince their fellow Premier League clubs that the same rule should be used for the next season.

Premier League rules state that there must be 14 votes in favour of any change in order for it to take effect.

The five-substitute decision was introduced, along with breaks, after the coronavirus break kept players at home for months.

Up to nine players could be on the bench as part of the new proposal using for the season to be completed in the Premier League and across Europe.
