Liverpool primed the Netherlands-born manager to replace Jurgen Klopp after they suffered setbacks in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim.
It was a no-holds-barred approach for Slot in the wake of Liverpool’s interest. The Eredivisie winner was ready for the next big chapter of his career but the Reds had to broker an agreement with Feyenoord to secure his services.
After days on the negotiation table, Feyenoord gave the nod for the move, agreeing to have the Premier League Club trigger Slot’s release clause.
Slot played his last game as Feyenoord manager against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, May 19, 2024, before bidding farewell to the club.
As captured in the Reds’ club statement, he is expected to resume duties as Liverpool manager on June 1, 2024, taking charge of the team’s preparations for next season.
Slot boasts a decent managerial profile. He began his managerial career with AZ Alkmaar where he was thrust into the limelight in the 2019/20 season after he led the club to a second-place finish in n the Dutch top-flight.
After his spell with AZ Alkmaar, Slot moved to Feyenoord, where he won the 2022/23 Eredivisie, and added the KNVB Cup to his collection this season.
He has won Eredivisie Manager of the Year twice following his standout campaign in the Dutch top-flight.
Slot will hope to continue on his remarkable career run as he takes up a new challenge in the Premier League as Liverpool manager.
