Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed his position on pariah left-back Joao Cancelo rejoining the team, MySportDab reports.

Cancelo fell out with Pep Guardiola midway in the 2022-23 campaign due to lack of game time and had to spend the rest of the season on loan to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

After the loan spell with Bayern, he was still out of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad plan. He was loaned out again to La Liga giants Barcelona.

This time, it was a season-long loan deal which saw the Portuguese proved his mettle with series of standout performances for the Catalan giants.

He scored two La Liga goals with four assists in 32 matches for Barca, including four goals with one assist in 10 Champions League matches.

At the time of this report, Cancelo is back to Manchester City squad after the loan tenure with Barcelona. However, it is yet unclear whether he will be reintegrated into Manchester City squad.

Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s opening Premier League game against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola confirmed the reintegration of Cancelo back to the squad. However, he kept fans in the dark on the place of the Portuguese in the team.

In a quote shared by Fabrizio Romano, the Spaniard can be integrated back to the squad but added he can’t decide on his future as things stand.

“João Cancelo to re-join our squad? It can happen, yes”.

“He’s training with us. We will see. Maybe he stays, maybe he goes on loan, maybe… I don’t know yet”.

“He’s training with us, behaving really well in the training sessions,” Fabrizio Romano quotes.

Cancelo joined Manchester City in 2019 from Juventus and has made 98 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring five goals.
