Real Madrid have dropped points in their opening 2024-25 La Liga opening clash against Real Mallorca, MySportDab reports.
The Los Blancos got off the mark with an early goal in the first half but a hard-fighting Mallorca side, buoyed by roaring home fans, fought back to a draw.
Rodrygo opened the scoring for the reigning La Liga and European champions in the 13th minute after a dominant start to proceedings, thanks to an assist by Vinicius Jr.
After leading the by a lone goal, the Los Blancos had a series of chances to double the lead before the break but failed with proceedings finally ending 1-0 in the first 45.
In the second half, Mallorca put up a more solid performance but were still playing second fiddle to the defending champions.
Against the run of play in the 53rd minute, Mallorca pulled a stunner, scoring the equaliser through Muriqi to peg back the visitors to a 1-1 draw.
However, there was enough time on the clock for Real Madrid to turn things around and possibly return to the lead but it was a deadlock going forward.
Despite parading a trio of the finest attackers, comprising Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, and Kylian Mbappe, it was a difficult game for the Madrid-based outfit in Mallorca’s half.
The host made well their attempt to thwart advances and block attempts on goal. The game took on a more frenetic tempo in the final minutes of proceedings as Real Madrid ramped up proceedings but Mallorca were equal to the task.
