Former Manchester United manager and now Fenerbache boss Jose Mourinho has blasted Manchester United for sacking Sir Alex Ferguson as the club’s Ambassador, MySportDab reports.
United decided to part ways with Sir Alex Ferguson, ripping off his ambassadorial contract which began in 2013.
The 2m-a-year-deal was reportedly ended by United’s new hierarchy under new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as part of the club’s cost-cutting measures.
A barrage of reaction has greeted the decision of the club to end Sir Alex Ferguson’s contract with some pundits believing it is a wrong move by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Ferguson has been a towering figure in United’s history, having overseen the club’s most successful era.
While Sir Jim Ratcliffe has belaboured on cutting cost and improving the overall efficiency of systems at the club, it is believed the move to end the 84-year-old’s 11-year contract is out of order.
Former Man United managed Jose Mourinho shares similar sentiment. When asked about United’s decision to sack Sir Alex Ferguson, the Portuguese said he doesn’t care what the atter must have been but it was out of place for the club to sack Ferguson.
He went on to add that the love and respect by Manchester United fans will be enough to keep the Octogenarian going than a few pounds annual contract.
“My relationship with Sir Alex was amazing, incredible,” said Mourinho.
“When my Netflix documentary comes out, you will know more about the reason why I have so much respect for him.
”The ambassadorial role, I really don’t know that situation. It doesn’t matter why, it doesn’t matter what, Sir Alex has the most important thing: the love and respect of every Manchester United fan around the world. That is more important than the role or a few pounds he can make.,” he added.
Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to quit his role as the club’s Ambassador officially at the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho is one of the managers who succeeded the Scott as Manchester United after he left the club in 2013.
