Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has expressed admiration for the skill and quality shown by the home-based Eagles during their initial training sessions ahead of the upcoming CHAN qualifiers against Ghana, MySportDab Reports.
With the African Nations Championship (CHAN) featuring players who compete within their home countries, Eguavoen has invited 35 players to the Abuja training camp to prepare for the crucial two-legged qualifier in December.
Speaking after Wednesday’s training session, Eguavoen commended the players’ technical abilities but highlighted the importance of team cohesion.
“Very impressive; only two training sessions, but you can see that technically they are very good,” Eguavoen stated in an interview with NFF TV. “We still have a lot of work to do because they are coming from different clubs. We have to try to see how we can blend them into one unit.”
The Super Eagles will face Ghana in the CHAN Qualifiers, with the first leg scheduled between December 20th-22nd in Ghana.
The return leg will take place a week later in Nigeria, where the winner over two legs will secure a place in the 2025 CHAN tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Eguavoen is optimistic about Nigeria’s chances, given the early signs of promise in the squad.
