Mikel Arteta Blasts His Players After 1-1 Draw Vs Chelsea

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has blasted his players for an ‘unacceptable’ and ‘poor’ showing against London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, November 10, 2024, MySportDab reports.

Arsenal surrendered a 1-0 lead late in the second half to settle for a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. Gabriel Martinelli had put the Gunners ahead a few minutes into the second half but the hosts fought back to level the score through Pedro Neto’s strike.

Three minutes before regulation time,  Leandro Trossard had a chance to put the Gunners ahead but blew it away from close range inside the Chelsea box.

Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta seemed overly unimpressed with the performance of his players although admitting he was proud of at least salvaging a point in the match.

According to him, his team dominated the match and deserved victory and he was unhappy with how they conceded the equalizer.

”I think we dominated them, we were the better team in many phases and situations in the game and after going ahead, very disappointed in the way we conceded. It was so poor. It is not our standards and we don’t accept.

”Really proud, but at the end we are here to get the three points and we didn’t. It is a second phase set piece and we were disorganised. We don’t reorganise quick enough and you can’t allow the pass that way,” he said in post-match press conference.

While the draw saw Arteta maintain his unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge since he became Arsenal manager,  the team fell further from the challenge for the Premier League title.

They sit fourth on the table with 19 points, six points away from table-toppers Liverpool who opened a five-point gap at the top after a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Arteta will hope to return the team to winning ways when he plays Nottingham Forest in their next match on November 23 after the international break.
