The race for a place in the 2025 AFCON has taken shape after the penultimate fixtures across different groups, MySportDab reports.

The fate of teams have been decided already after the latest round of matches while others’ chances still hang in the balance.

Five more countries have booked their slot in the group stages of the competition while three have been eliminated.

Leading the list of countries who have secured their slot in the tournament is the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Nigeria were already through to the group stages of the competition after they were guaranteed a top-two finish in Group D following Libya’s 1-0 win over Rwanda.

The Super Eagles later settled for a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic to secure the top spot in the group.

In Group A, Tunisia made history with a record-breaking 17th successive qualification for the tournament after winning 3-2 away at Madagascar.

Angola and Algeria are also through with 12 and 13 points in four matches, respectively to go top of their groups.

Egypt and Morocco are also through after a perfect record in all their four matches before the penultimate fixture.

Teams that have been confirmed eliminated from the competition are Central African Republic, Congo, and Madagascar.

Ghana is likely to be one of the biggest casualties in the qualification phase. The Black Stars are bottom of their group with just two points but still stands a chance if they beat Angola and Niger in their remaining two fixtures.
