Ruben Amorim has drafted his first youth recruit to Manchester United first team in his first training session as Man United manager, MySportDab reports.
In a report shared by Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese tactician invited English youngster Godwill Kukonki to the senior squad as he prepares to tune the team for his first match against Ipswich Town on November 24, 2024.
Kobbie Mainoo was also part of the training session with scores of United’s top first-team players missing as they are yet to return from the international break.
Meanwhile, Kukonki’s promotion stole the spotlights in the Portuguese’s first stint with the team on Carrington.
Kukonki plays as a defender for Manchester United U18. He was in action for the team in their 3-0 thrashing of Everton U18 in Premier League Development League.
He played the full 90 minutes in the game, won 2 tackles and completed 64 passes.
So far, he has featured four times for the team in the English U-18 Premier League for Manchester United and has one assist.
His promotion to the first team delineates Amorim resolve to focus on young players as he sets out to change the narrative at Old Trafford.
The former Sporting Lisbon boss is known for his energetic and intense style of play built around youthful vigor.
Kukonki, who has found favour in the sight of the manager, will hope to quickly nail down a spot in Amorim’s squad and rise up through the ranks.
Meanwhile, Amorim is expected to stick to an array of experienced defenders in the Man United setup as he executes his first fixture as Man United manager.
