Manchester United reached agreement with Cerro Porteno for the services of top-rated youngster Diego Leon, MySportDab reports.
The 17-year-old is expected to join the club in July 2025 after a £5m-worth deal with the Paraguayan club. But who is the player Diego Leon and what is his style of play? Let’s dive in!
Brief Profile
Diego Leon is a Paraguayan young footballer, playing mainly as a defender, specifically as a left-back and left wing-back.
Aged 17, he began his career with Cerro Porteno – an elite Paraguayan club – playing for the club’s youth team for several years before his breakout in 2023.
Since the big break, he has made 19 senior career appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals and is tipped as one of the most promising defenders in Paraguayan and South American football.
Playing Attributes
Diego Leon plays as a left-back. He is left-footed and is known for his attacking flair, great composure, and pristine football IQ.
His greatest strengths are in marking and tackling. While poised to attack on the wings, he has established a reputation for strong marking and great composure even when under pressure.
He is also said to be proficient on one-on-one situations but very weak on delivering set-pieces. His passing and crossing are also good, making him a good fit and great prospect for the Ruben Amorim system.
Leon has also earned rave reviews for his vision, positional skills, teamwork, technical finesse and decision-making skills.
He is United’s first signing under Ruben Amorim and is expected to easily gel into the squad with his already polished young career.
